Description

100 Celebrated Chinese Women, Art Album by Lu Yanguang.  English.  Softcover.
Written by Cai Zhuozhi.  Translated by Kate Foster.  Illustrated by Lu Yanguang.

An unique portraits of 100 celebrated Chinese women throughout 5,000 years of Chinese history.  Written in a captivating style and beautifully illustrated in a stunning art form, this volume will take readers on a fascinating trip into the world these women lived in, to understand the social norms of those bygone eras and how these women emerged as victors or victims of the circumstances they were forced into.

Lu Yanguang, the illustrator, was born in Kaiping, Guandong province in 1948.  He is presently director of Guangzhou Art Gallery, vice-chairman of Guangzhou Artists' Association and chief editor of Guangzhou Art Studies.
A renowned artist, instead of the traditional Chinese style of brush painting, Lu Yanguang combined the old with the new.  His refreshingly artistic technique is known as xiuxiang bua (portraits in decorative style).

A beautifully illustrated book.  I wish the pictures are in colors instead of black and white.  The biography of these women are definitely an eye-opener.  I am learning something that's hard to find in a regular history book.
