The Lost Horse : A Chinese Folktale , English, Soft Cover by Ed Young


The ancient Chinese folktale about a man, his son, and a horse - and the ever-changing fortunes of life.  The Lost Horse is a Chinese Proverb of four characters.  The Chinese Calligraphy at the front is the original Chinese story, then on the following pages with beautiful illustrations, the story is told in English.  The story takes place among the nomads in Northern China.  It's a great story for teaching children about how life may turn out unexpectedly. Blessings may turn into disasters, and disasters into blessings. The idea being when something appears bad, it may not really be that bad.  And what appears to be good, may not really be that good. A great read!

Author Ed Young, Caldecott Medalist Winner, grew up in Shanghai during World War 2.  He has now written/illustrated over 80 books. Here is an interview with Ed Young . He now lives in NY with his two daughters.
