Description Reviews

The novel describes the life of Wai Ching and 30 other Chinese girls and women at the Angel Island Immigration Station in 1922. Their lives had both happy and sad moments. The complete text of the book is provided in both English and Chinese. Mostly text, book is in Chinese and English.  Good book for middle school and older.  It is very realistic on it's portrayal of Angel Island.  It's cute how the front is in English, then the back is in Chinese on the book.  Nice way to do a bilingual book.

Angel Island Prisoner May 29, 2008
Reviewer: Carol Hampe from Germantown MD
This is an excellent book to introduce the Chinese immigration experience to children.  My youngest 3rd grade was studying Ellis Island in school and I chose this book to widen her knowledge base.  It lead to many good discussions of what  immigrants to the US faced.  She could really identify with the hardships and fears faced by the little girl in the story.
