 Material Needed:
  1.  Paper Plate, approximately 9" diameter (regular size plate).
  2. Yellow Construction Paper, 1 sheets 8 1/2 x 11.
  3. Red Construction Paper, 2 sheets. 8 1/2 x 11.
  4. Green Construction Paper -Two circles, 2" diameter
  5. Red Ribbon, 1/2" + width, two 12" long strips
  6. Elastic Ribbon, 18"
Tools Needed:
  1. Scissors
  2. Stapler
  3. Pencil
  4. Glue or Tape
  5. Ruler
 Instructions:
  1.  Cut the yellow construction paper into strips 1 inches thick by 5 1/2 inches. 8 strips total needed.
  2. Cut one sheet of the red construction paper into strips 1 inches thick by 5 1/2 inches. 8 strips total needed.
  3. Glue, tape, or staple the strips onto the front (eating surface) of the plate. Strips to come like a lion's mane.Alternating colors (red, yellow, red). Staples work great, but are ugly.
  4. Cut the green construction paper into a circles for the eyes. Approximately 2" diameter.
  5. Glue eyes onto top of plate. Approximately 3" from top and side of plate, non-eating surface (back).
  6. Use the black pencil to mark the inside of eye for the holes that will need to be cut. Distance between eyes is approximately 2 inches from centers (best to measure child who will be wearing mask).
  7. Cut holes in plate for eyes. Have child test to make sure eyes holes can be seen through.
  8. Cut out mouth using red construction paper. See picture for shape (approximately 3" long arc with 1" diameter circles on end).
  9. Glue mouth onto mask.
  10. For nose, cut out two, two inch long arc's from red construction paper.
  11. Glue nose on.
  12. Fray the ends of the red ribbons.
  13. Using tape or glue, attach next to nose.
  14. Cut triangle from red construction paper. 2" x 2" x 2" sides. Place pointed down with point in middle of eyes for eye browns.
  15. Attach elastic ribbon using staples to sides of mask. Cut a hole on each side for the ribbon and secure using a knot. Children have a tendency to put a lot of strain on this area so staples don't work (this is why you build a prototype, to find out this type of stuff!!!), so it needs to be very securely attached. Suggest test fit on child before attaching second side in case to long.

Very loosely based on a picture I saw on this Maryland's Public School Site that does a wonderful Dragon Parade getting the entire school involved.
