Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year is the most important of the Chinese Holidays.  It is based on the Lunar Calendar and occurs at the end of January or February. Chinese New Year occurs on the first day with a new moon and ends with the Lantern Festival for a total of 15 days of holiday.  In China and Taiwan most businesses will shut down around the Lunar New Year.  The Chinese Calendar also uses a different starting count, so just add 104 to the Gregorian Calendar to get the correct year 9 (so 2008 + 104 = 2012 Chinese Year). Chinese customs for New Years include visiting family and cleaning the house.
