Positive and engaging |

My girls (2 & 6, both adopted from China) have enjoyed this book from early on. They like having a book about someone that looks like them (this generated an interesting discussion with my then 3-yr old daughter) with a similar story. While our family composition is different (mother and father), it has created opportunities to talk about their adoptions as we read. I like that the author allows some ambiguity in some of the scenes because it opens opportunity for discussion. This is particularly true in the scene where the baby and mother meet. The mother cries because she is happy. The baby just cries. As my older daughter has matured she has new questions but still enjoys reading it.

My all time favorite book about China Adoption. To this day, four years after adopting our daughter, I still can't finish the last page of this book without crying. My 5 yr old is now used to my crying when I read her this book - she just wipes away my tears without saying a word.
