 Discussion Questions:

Why does Jerry Rao want to do your taxes?  (Jerry Rao is an Indian entrepreneur whose company is doing outsourced tax work in India.  From the article by Thomas Friedman.

What is outsourcing?

What has led to outsourcing? 
Rapid fall in the price of telecommunications.

What type of jobs are being outsourced?

What countries are being outsourced to?

Examples of outsourced jobs? 
Telecommunication:  what impact will this have in jobs in the US in the future?

What is the dangers of outsourcing for a company?  Lose that ability to do in the future by outsourcing.  May also be building a rival.  Problem of extra documentation and direction may be needed to do work. 
Example of IT Workers in India who may not understand cultural issues
and need to have everything clearly documented.

Who is leading the push into outsourcing?

What are the positive and negative views of outsourcing?

How is this helping other countries?  100,000 of India’s 24 Million College Graduates absorbed in it per year. (25 minutes)

Model

If you will be demonstrating the skill or competence, how will this be done?

*Use Cornell notes to list key points and answers on the board during the discussion.  Call on students to give everyone the chance to participate.

Check for Understanding

Identify strategies to be used to determine if students have learned the objectives

*Ask if there are any addition questions or points of the discussion that need clarifying before moving on to the assignment. (5 minutes)

Guided Practice

List activities which will be used to guide student practice and provide a time frame for completing this practice.

*Take Cornell notes during class for future reference.

* Quick write, one paragraph: What is the economic impact on outsourcing, good or bad, and what can be done about it? (5 minutes)

Closure

What method of review and evaluation will be used to complete the lesson?

 Collect the quick writes, have student pick up, and allow them to relax for the last few minutes before the bell. (5 minutes)

Independent Practice

List homework/seatwork assignment to be given to the students to ensure they have mastered the skill without teacher guidance.
