The Kuaile Hanyu (Happy Chinese) Software Multimedia CD-ROM set teaches beginning Chinese through lively animation, videos that depict real-life situations, and fun and motivating games. It is designed for middle-school students learning Chinese as a foreign language from the beginner level. Other products in the series include3 levels with textbooks, workbooks, flashcards and CD Rom.  Kuaile Hanyu was developed with a partnership of schools in England and the Chinese Government

Approach

The Kauaile Hanyu Learning Chinese Software uses a spiral approach that reinforces material from previous lessons, and emphasizes speaking and comprehension. The situational video follows the experience of two foreign students during their stay with their host families in Beijing.  They make new friends and learn about cultural similarities and differences.  The teens also learn about Chinese etiquette and customs. Each video segment presents the Chinese vocabulary and structures from each lesson in context.  It is a great way for students to gain practical knowledge of the Chinese language and culture. A variety of carefully developed game types incorporating vivid graphics, dynamic animation and sound effects makes language learning a positive and exciting experience.

This delightful CD-ROM set is suitable for both individual home study and computer classroom instruction. It is great on its own or as a supplement to the Kuaile Hanyu Textbook series published by the People’s Education Press.   For ages 11 and up!
