Chinese Language is based on pictures, that evolved into characters.  There was a long development of one character from a pictograph with an example of usage. For example, the Chinese Character for a Moon, actually looks like a moon. 

For some, Simplified Characters are easier to learn since there are less brush strokes. 










For others, Traditional characters are easier to learn because there is a system to the
brush strokes.  Once you understand the system, there is less memorization involved.
