Bought for my 3yr old twins. And they like it well enough, but was hoping it would have more music/songs which they can remember more easily. and they go straight into phrases, could spend a little more on individual words. they will watch for a little while but then want something else, like Two Tigers song. going to try Bao Bei next.....

I bought this for my 4 and 2 year old american born chinese granddaughters. They fell in love with the Panda, and really get excited to watch the DVD's. I also want to comment that childbook.com is very prompt with the delivery.

My nearly three year old son just loves these dvds: he runs to get his panda teddy and sits and watches it, giggling at the animated Little Pim's antics. I love that it is soley in mandarin. It is very clear what the words mean, and the videos build from one word to two words to short sentences with varying subjects and grammar (ie : sleep. I sleep. He sleeps. They sleep. wake up. She wakes up. They wake up. We wake up papa.) The meaning is very clear, and one learns naturally. The visuals are excellent and sound is high quality. There is a great variety of children (ages, ethnicity, looks). Nice combo of animation and live action. The only ones out there that are only mandarin, for non mandarin speakers. Highly recommended. I can hardly wait for more in this series.

My 5 and 3 year olds will watch this set of DVDs despite the fact that they do not understand mandarin. After a while they start getting restless, but they still sit through it despite not having a background in the language. It helps that they find the main character, a Panda, delightful and funny. I like that there is repetition of words and good context and grouping of the words to make it much more interesting than just a dictionary on video. So, for me it creates a nice balance for someone who can understand a little chinese, but not well enough to really speak it or teach my children.

As a Chinese American but non-Mandarin-speaking mom, I've struggled to lay an early Mandarin foundation for our biracial toddler. Tried some videos, dragged to baby Chinese classes, but our strong-willed kid tells me "I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO CHINESE CLASS BECAUSE I DON'T SPEAK CHINESE". Yet somehow, he loves Little Pim and is watching over and over. I'm hoping it's a magic charm.
