from China by Ed Young
White board and markers
|
| Anticipatory
Set
List specific statements or activities
you will use to focus students on the lesson for the day |
Talk about the traditional
American version of Little Red Riding Hood. Have the kids
share in retelling the story. You can even have props handy to assign
parts and act out the story.(10-15 minutes) |
|
Objective/Purpose
For the student's benefit, explain what
students will be able to do by the time they successfully complete the
lesson. |
We are going to read another
version of Little Red Riding Hood as told in China. Listen
for the differences in the two stories.
|
| Input
What information is essential for the
student to know before beginning and how will this skill be communicated
to the students |
Read Lon Po Po to
the class. (10 minutes) |
|
Model
If you will be demonstrating the skill
or competence, how will this be done? |
Take notes on the board
comparing the differences.
Mom left instead of Red Riding Hood.
3 kids at home, not one. The grandma is coming to visit. The kids
are not rescued; they have to solve the problem of the wolf and are
the heroes of the story etc. (5 minutes) |
|
Check for Understanding
Identify strategies to be used to determine
if students have learned the objectives |
As the kids which story
they like better and why. Give everyone in the class a chance
to respond. (5 minutes) |
|
Guided Practice
List activities which will be used to
guide student practice and provide a time frame for completing this
practice. |
Not applicable |
| Closure
What method of review and evaluation
will be used to complete the lesson? |
How would you tell the story
of Little Red Riding Hood? Who would be the hero? How would
you get rid of the wolf? You are going to get a chance to make up your
own story. (5 minutes) |
|
Independent Practice
List homework/seatwork assignment to
be given to the students to ensure they have mastered the skill without
teacher guidance. |
Depending on the age and
reading/writing level, have the students draw a picture of their own
version of the story to tell in class tomorrow. For the older kids,
have them write a short story of their own version of the story.
No story is right or wrong. The kids are simply to create a story
with their own imaginations. (5 minutes) |
|
Assessment |
What time adjustments need
made? Do you need more or less time for certain aspects of the
assignment? What would you do different? The same? |
