Red Is a Dragon: A Book of Colors is a concept book full of beautiful and richly colored illustrations that make use of the entire page, filling it with both pattern and color. Each color has four examples to demonstrate each hue. I like the mixture of both Asian cultural items as well as more universal items. The Asian influence seen in the illustrations and in the choice of some of the objects not only teaches color, but helps to illustrate another culture to readers. To further educate, a glossary of the new vocabulary used is found at the back of the book. The rhymes are nice and help the reader along by creating a calming flow. Children with an Asian background will enjoy seeing their selves portrayed in the book, and any child should find the illustrations and liberal use of color charming. The illustrations are big and boldly colored which makes this an easy book to see during story time.
