I sometimes read the book in English and replace just a few nouns in Chinese, and read the simple sentences I know my children understand in Chinese. The story of “The Frog in the Well” was about a little frog that lived in a well. He thought he was the best frog because he knew everything. Then one day a sea turtle came to visit him. The frog asked the turtle to come in the well but the turtle asked the frog why he didn’t go in the sea. When the frog told the turtle he knew everything, the turtle told the frog there was a whole sea full of new things. This taught the frog he had a lot of learning to do and that he wasn’t the smartest or the best.

This is a Chinese-English bilingual book with both traditional and simplified Chinese characters, along with its Zhu Yin Fu Hao and Pinyin.Both systems are phonetic notations for learning to read, write, and speak Mandarin.
