As an avid reader and educator, this is a great book, if you want to learn about Chinese culture and the poetry that spans dynasties.
Whether you are 12 or 112, this is a wonderful book that explores great poetry and the dual inspired meanings.

This book samples the well-known verses of the Tang dynasty as well as some from other periods in Chinese history. The categorization by themes is an excellent approach to tie poems, poets, and history together. The historical background to each poem are fine gems of knowledge. Inclusion of works by female poets is a great idea, too. The only disappointment is the lack of traditional Chinese characters for the poems, as they are shown in simplified only. I can write in my own traditional characters, with the help of a dictionary, I suppose. This makes a great book for an English reader to learn the poems, language, and history.
