Learning through music is second only to immersion - you can't hear all the tones with singing but it is a good start. I recommend it for 'ear training' too - even if families only play it in the car every week. I think "Teach Me Chinese" is a bit easier for English speakers to use.

These are the commonly sung childhoood songs. We were singing along in no time. We don't always know what we are saying, but it is a good introduction to hearing the tones, etc.

As far the Sing & Learn Chinese CD and Book, I love it. My 1 & 3 year old are learning nursery rhymes in Chinese rather than English. (My first language is English and theirs, too.) My students (Kindergarten-1st graders) are learning these songs too because it helps them learn their vocab.

I like that it has traditional characters, pinyin, and some familiar American songs.

I like singing these songs to my children. They like listening to them, too. Overall, it's a good buy.
