Taiwan's 2010 Rose Parade Entry

China Airlines' float won the International Award for most beautiful entry from outside the continental U.S. with a theme of Taiwan's Gardian- The Third Prince during the 121st Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, on New Year's Day, January 1, 2010. The third Prince in Mandarin is known as Nezha. More info. on how Nezha has become more Taiwanese.

China Airlines is really Taiwan's entry, since it's government owned.

Beautiful float! Pictures..

What's interesting is the floats have had more of a Taiwanese theme the last couple of years, where it used to be a generic Chinese theme.

Questions:
Why is it so hard to find a picture of China and Taiwan's Float? I"ll add these later as they come available. Looks like the Tournament of Roses site has bandwidth issues.

Humerous:
1. When I did a search on google for a picture of China Airlines 2008 Rose Parade entry, my blog came up. I did a previous post on China Airlines Rose Parade Entries with the pictures I could find noting my frustration on finding photos.

2. The float builder for both the Taiwan and China floats is the same. Festival Artists (which needs to improve their web site. Sugestions - Pictures! List of clients with drawings. Other float builders are doing this).

Counter Chinese Olympic Logo

Anti Beijing 2008 Pasadena Olympic Billboard and a newspaper story. It's an interesting coalition that is behind this billboard.

I feel a bit sorry for the Pasadena Government, they really are in a no win situation where no matter what they do, they are going to upset somebody.

China's Rose Parade Challenges

Pasadena, CA city council continues to debate China's Entry into the Rose Parade. From a political prospective, smaller organizations have a chance to have their voices heard concerning China. The Pasadena City Council is in a lose lose situation no matter what they do, somebody will be unhappy saying they did to much, or to little.

Avery Dennison Corp. contributed half the cost of the float, which is not surprising since the founder of Avery who went to one of the Claremont Colleges, Pomona, organized a trip to China that made a lasting impression on him. Avery used to sponsor Claremont College students and recent alumni to spend a year in China having an adventure, but this looks like it has been discontinued. I applied for riding steam trains in China, but other worthier projects were chosen that year.

What I liked about the Avery China Adventure program was it gave a chance for students to really learn the Chinese culture by experiencing China by living there. The lists of projects that was done is amazing, from magicians to hiking remote areas to wine making to looking for gibbons. All adventures that were out of the ordinary.

China Airlines Rose Parade Entry

My view - I wish I could get better pictures of the China Airlines Float each year (which is actually from Taiwan. For some reason it is so hard to get good pictures online of it. Every year they do a beautiful job. In 2007 they won the International Trophy and did a nice press release, but no photos on their site! 16th time they have won an award.

Pictures I found:
2007 - The Natural Beauty of Taiwan (scroll down 2/3rds of the page - they disables the right click finally).
2006 Magical Taiwan with more pictures here (scroll down)
2005 Enjoying our Native Family - Taiwan and from China Airlines Site.
2004 Taiwan's Sound of Joy
2003 Dreaming of Taiwan International Trophy.
2002 Enjoying Taiwan, 2003 Dreaming of Taiwan,
2001 "Chinatown USA"Winner, International Trophy. I found it on the company that provided the Orchids for the float.
