Chinese Made Easy for Kids, Simplified Characters Level 1 Textbook 2nd Edition

by Yamin Ma & Xinying Li

Our best selling Learning Chinese Textbook for Teaching Kids Chinese and focuses on learning to speak Chinese. It does not focus on Learning Characters solely, it teaches verbal and written Chinese as well.

The book is written for use by US students culturally. It's designed for students learning Chinese as a second language, but also works for American born Chinese. It's very popular with both public schools, as well as weekend Chinese schools. Chinese Made Easy has available a workbook for each level, as well as flash cards for level 1 and 2. The Textbook now comes with MP3's (previous edition had a CD) and is a great value on the pricing. The feedback from customers is this is an enjoyable series that has a lot of exercises that keeps students interested.

Best For:

  • Chinese classes of 1-6 students
  • Teachers and Tutors who are Native Chinese Speakers
  • Children learning basic Mandarin Chinese
  • Primary School Children, usually ages 5-11.

Teacher Feedback:

One middle school teacher loved the book due to all the activities, but commented she wished the words kids was not in the title, since middle school students hate being called kids.

Recommended Usage for Students:

  • Daily Lessons so a motivated student can finish one book per year.
  • Go over the phonic lessons with students
  • Show the stroke order for characters - stroke order is extremely important. Have the students use their imagination, since written Chinese is pictogram based this can be a lot of fun.
  • Have students listen to the MP3 for each lesson.
  • Read and say the rhyme in each lesson
  • Trace the characters and memorize the radicals

Series Key Points:

  • Series consists of Four levels
  • Each Level has 16 Lessons
  • Wonderful feedback from teachers and tutors I have sold the series too.
  • Textbook and workbook with MP3's for each level.
  • Available in either Simplified or Traditional Chinese Characters
  • Written by Professional Chinese Teachers with experience teaching Native English Speakers. Teaching students Learning Chinese as a 2nd language requires a different approach, than teaching a native Chinese speaker.
  • Series has interesting content with lots of exercises and games, so it's not boring. When teaching most students in the US, this is very important in order to be successful.
  • MP3 Material can be used at home by parents to reinforce the lessons.
  • Picture and text size is easy to read by being large enough print.
  • Lots of Pictures for content that keeps the lessons interesting and fun.
  • Great foundation Learning Chinese book for learning to speak and write Chinese Characters.
  • Each level builds upon the previous level.
  • Worksheets available for more writing practice.

If you have an older child who might not want to touch a textbook with "For Kids" on the title, you might want to try Chinese Made Easy by clicking here - which is best for Junior High and older students. I have seen teachers use both series at the same time, since the Chinese Made Easy for Kids has more exercises, and Chinese Made Easy focuses more on learning Chinese characters.
