Long-Long's New Year by Catherine Gower & He Zhihong

New Year is almost here, and Long-Long sets off to market with his grandfather to make money for their Spring Festival celebrations.  When they meet with trouble along the way, Long-Long worries about disappointing his family.  He wanders through the market's colorful New Year scenes, trying to work out what to do.   Is there still time for him to make the family's Spring Festival extra special?

This is an excellent book about the Chinese New Year that  parents and primary school teachers will want to read aloud.  This shows a child's life in China (rather than Chinatown).

For ages 4-8, English, Hardcover.

This story is set during the Chinese New Year celebration of sometime before modern 2000 buildings. It's about a boy who helps his grandfather sell cabbage so that they'll have enough money to buy the things for their celebration. He helps out and as he does so he is rewarded especially when he is tempted to spend his money but chooses not to. You learn about celebrating the new year through th
